Is anyone home in Sarnen, Switzerland?

I once went past Sarnen, Switzerland on a train. It looked like a stereotypical rustic Swiss village at first sight in spite of the fact that none of the buildings seemed to have any paint on them. It was tempting to want to get off the train; however, I was overcome by the feeling that anyone who got off the train in this place might never see another train come along to get him or her out of it. It is supposed to be, at least near, the home of the Bio-Familia muesli company, yet, like some other places in Switzerland, it had no sign of human habitation.

Have you ever read The Stepford Wives?

Sometimes, Switzerland can seem like the town of Stepford. Even so, people do live there, and you NEVER have to worry about the trains coming and stopping on time.

I have an online friend there...she does seem to be home a lot (so you wouldn't see her on the streets).
Also I think that's where I met the guy who sold me a bike.
The train comes once an hour in each direction I believe. Perhaps every half-hour. (I've taken it to the Ballenberg Open-Air museum a number of times--highly recommended--and also to ski in Engelberg, I think.)

I just looked it up and sarnen has about 9 500 inhabitants, that means it's even bigger than the place i live in! it probably looked so empty because firstly switzerland is a very clean country and secondly u probably passed it at a time when everyone was occupied with work or school so most of the people were just inside. And for your information: the railway system is very dependable in switzerland!

There are probably people at home in Sarnen, but they may not be very friendly. This is enough to make someone wonder if they take being politically neutral a bit too far in Switzerland. My oldest friend seems to have moved to Switzerland, but I don't think he speaks any foreign languages, and they speak four different languages there.

I live near Sarnen, and yes, people do live there, though it's not a very big village. It's very cute though, typically swiss and a lovely place to visit.
