1) Well, considering it is an urbanized area you won't see many! But if you go hiking around, that area is known for its variety of mushrooms, along with chestnut trees. As for animals you may see a hedgehog if you are lucky!
2) The city is in the middle of a valley, surrounded by tall mountains on all sides. Because of this, Bellinzona is a long city, rather than circular like most European cities.
3) Bellinzona is well-known because it is home to 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites: 3 magnificent castles. Other then that, Bellinzona is known as the party city for the region, hosting many activities such as the yearly Carneval (known to be the liveliest in Switzerland), and many bars and clubs. It also has a good market on Saturday mornings. In addition, there is good hiking around, 2 ski resorts 20 minutes by train, Lugano (the region's largest city) sits on Lago di Ceneri 30 minutes to the south, while Locarno on Lago Maggiore is 20 minutes west, Zurich is about 2 hours north, and Milan is 1.5 hour south.
4) That depends on the time of year! It is cold and snowy in the winter, while summer is hot and slightly humid.
5) There are really no dangerous elements to traveling in Bellinzona. There are no gangs, pick-pocketing is rare, if ever. Switzerland, in general, is a very safe country.
