Study abroad program?

I will be going to Montreaux Switzerland for a semester and was wondering if anyone had been there? What are some good sites to see. Where are some good restaurants and bars. Do you have dance clubs like in the U.S.? And where is the good shopping? Thanks

Montreux is in a beautiful area on Lake Geneva (Lac Leman). There are many restaurants, clubs, & bars, and some shopping (Montreux is a tourist destination). Lausanne is a larger city (more shopping) only 20 to 30 minutes away by train, and Geneva is only an hour away by train. Paris is 4 to 4 1/2 hours away by train (via Lausanne or Geneva).

Switzerland is not very large and has a fabulous rail system - almost the whole country is within reach as a "day trip". The whole country is also a tourist destination and you should explore it as you can. There are lots of tourist guides to Switzerland - look at the library, in bookstores, and online.

Note that Montreux (and Lausanne & Geneva) are in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. English is very widely spoken, but you REALLY need to learn some basic French before going there.

In another question you asked about racism. People of African ethnicity are not common in Switzerland but they are not unknown either. People > may < stare at you a bit (especially kids), but it is because you will be somewhat unusual. Don't let it bother you. The Swiss only care that you aren't a refugee from somewhere, and they are as unhappy with white Albanian refugees as they are with black African refugees. It's a money thing.

Hope you have a great time!
