Switzerland Summer Family Trip?

I am looking to go towards the end of May to Switzerland with my wife and 3 year-old son. We were thinking of a 5 day itinerary that doesn't involve any hiking or long walks due to our little one. We would like to observe some nature stuff as well as city life. One place that we wanted to include in our itinerary was Lake Como. Should we rent a car or take train/bus?

I would rent a car. The Autobahn is very easy to navigate. The trains can be a bit crowded! You will love it. Switzerland is just beautiful!

Honestly, if you are planning on staying in a major city it is normally only a short walk to a train or bus. If you can read Italian or German then it will be easy to figure out which one to take, but if not you might have some trouble. Most people over in Switzerland know at least some English.. so it will not be that difficult. It is more on personal preference... If you don't mind waiting 20-30 minutes at times and want to save a little cash take the bus/train. Otherwise, rent a car!

Switzerland is Beautiful! Have fun! =)

As a father of three children myself I would suggest you travel by train! The Swiss train system, one of the densest in the world, is reliable and therefore to be recommended. Just imagine winding up towards the Gotthard tunnel if coming from the North - you would not only have breathtaking views to the alps but to villages from all their sides as the train goes in an out through more tunnels. An unforgettable ride many school classes have done in the past and still are doing today.

Just to make it clear: Lake Como is not in Switzerland, but in Italy. If you want to do something spectacular that includes both: From Lugano, in the South of the country, take the postal coach (the so called Palm Express) that takes you along the lake with its palm trees, then up the windig Maloja pass to Sankt Moritz, the famous place for the rich and beautiful but also for regular people in the alpine Engadin valley.

Happy travelling in the land of the Helvets!

Just to add: 5 days maybe quite short to see many things.
