what to do in Geneva
- a journey on the lake to Lausanne, Montreux and back to Geneva, or you can visit Thonon and Evian (on the opposite border of the lake, don't forget your passport because both are in France).
- visiting the Olympic Museum in Lausanne
- visiting Zermatt to see the world famous Matterhorn (one way is about 3h45' by train).

From where you are leaving??? From USA the most direct ways are:
Swiss Air Lines ....wwww.swiss.com
non-stop from NYC, MIA or change plane in Zurich from other cities Swiss flies from (LAX, BOS)
Continential Airlines....www.continental,com
direct from Newark, or change plane in Newark from other cities
Hotels are not cheap in Geneva, check the links other people put above
Shopping...major stores: MIGROS, MANOR
downtown Geneva have several stores (Grand Passage, Bon Marche) locals still shop there.
Sightseeing: you must take a tour of the old city, known in French by: VIELLE VILLE (lots of antiques strores there) and make sure you go on the top of the Cathedrale St. Pierre for a view of the city and it's free).
Reformation Wall, United Nation, take the boat on the lake (CGN) you can have a blast to tour the lake in one day, stopping in Lausanne, Montreux, Vevey, etc..)
Hotels have maps, and can help telling where and how to go in the city. (This is not a big city). Lots of walking.
I was born and raise in Geneva, living in Los Angeles |

One tip - always use a local site as the prices and options are usually better.
This site has some very good deals and has a help desk in the US and several points in Europe. You can sort the results by price , location and star rating:
Geneva Accomodation :http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/Switzerland/Geneva/
French :http://www.hotelsenfrancais.com/Switzerland/Geneva/
Spanish:http://www.hotelsespanol.com/Switzerland/Geneva/
Italian:http://www.hotelsitaliano.com/Switzerland/Geneva/
German:http://www.hotelsdeutsche.com/Switzerland/Geneva/
Also - go to the National Tourism site via this link - it has lot's of helpful info:
Switzerland: http://www.tourismrankings.com/Switzerland/
They are quite helpful in answering emails.
Hope this all helps |
