Switzerland is an amazing place to visit, to be specific bern is amazing. Bern by itself is a cobblestone village. If you really want an amazing mountain village, try going to Murren. It is on a mountain "terrace" and overlooks the magnificent Alps. On your way to Murren you will be in Interlaken, which is another mountain town settled on a lake. Almost everywhere in Switzerland is connected by the train system, so it is only hours to your next destination. If you really want a sleigh ride and very christmassy feel try going to Zurich. The people decorate the city extremely well. They also have events and cool stuff happening. If you want a really amazing hotel as said before the Bellevue Palace is the place to go. It is Bern's top rated hotel but also very expensive. There is one other hotel called the Allegro Grand Casino Hotel which is only a couple buildings away from the Bellevue Palace. Have a fun time in Bern.

So you're going to switzerland, Bern, excellent choice really.
The greatest thing about Bern, is that you can really get to feel the genuine historic atmosphere there. Downtown is a very exquisite place to head to for starters, it's like you can get anywhere you want from there. Of course there's the main train station "Bahnhof", from where you can set off.

If you're thinking fancy hotels then there's the Bellevue hotel, it's five stars, and certainly outlooking marvellous views of the river, near a bridge, on the other side of it, there's Helvetiaplatze, there you can find a huge fountain with a statue of Helvetia and people around her. In that area there is a historical museum and an animal museum, not sure if it's still there.

And many many things, such as visiting the Rose Garden, see the Bea Pit.. and so on here's a link which u'll find useful :)

One thing I would strongly advise you to do is spend new years eve in Zurich, to me it's a romantic city, just an hour's drive from bern, they ornament the streets by strings of light bulbs that seem like raining light!! it's spectacular...
