Travel to Switzerland/Austria in January?

Is travel difficult this time of year and is the weather not too bad? Not scared of snow, I actually love it; I'm just wondering if it's a bad time to go.

Travel is very easy year around by train. I would not recommend travelling by car in winter. The only thing to be aware of is if you go in late January ski resort towns such as Zermatt, Innsbruck, Grindelwald, and St. Moritz may require a 1 week stay at their hotel. If you are not planning on skiing you should still visit a ski resort for the experience for a day trip.

Switzerland and Austria are simply beautiful that time of year. You will see the Alps in all their glory and the towns and villages will look like winter wonderlands.
