Travelling from US to India via Zurich - need transit visa?

Hi,

I am travlling to India from USA and have a connection at Zurich. I would spend in all 3 hrs inside zurich airport and dont intend to come out of the airport at all. I am an indian national and have a valid H1 and B1 US visa on my passport. However my H1 expires before I start my travel and am going to India to get it restamped and extended. However my B1 visa is still valid.
Will I need a transit Visa at Zurich?

Regards,
Ashwini

Hello Ashwini,
No, you will not need an airport transit visa if you stay in the transit area of the airport since you hold a valid visa for the USA and/or are on a return flight to your country..

Flight passengers in transit

Subject to Items II and III below, such persons do not require a visa if they satisfy all the following conditions:
a) they are holders of one of the following travel documents:
• a recognised and valid national passport.....
b) they do not leave the transit area;
c) they continue their journey within 48 hours;
d) they possess the travel documents required for entry into the country of destination;
e) they possess a flight ticket for the journey to their destination;
f) they have made the bookings necessary in this connection prior to their arrival in Switzerland.

Nationals of Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, INDIA, Iran, the Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and Turkey will only be granted the visa exemption pursuant to Item I above if
a) they are holders of a recognised and valid diplomatic, service or special passport, or
b) they are holders of a recognised and valid ordinary national passport and a valid visa or a valid residence document issued by Andorra, Canada, the United States of America, Monaco, San Marino or a member state of the European Union (EU) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). If the visa was only granted for one entry, the foreign nationals will be exempted from the obligation to hold a transit visa for Switzerland for their return flight (yet only during the period of validity of that visa) although they have already made use of the visa for the outward journey.

if u do not intend to get out of ZĂ¼rich Flughafen(the int. airport) then u don't need a transit visa...your American visas are enough

Foreigners with valid greencards or permanent resident cards issued from the US do not need an extra visa to enter Switzerland.

You can check with your airline provider to double check what travel documents you would need.

In all other cases Indian and Asian citizens would need a visa to enter Switzerland.
