My brother and sister-in-law took a train tour of Europe. They basically lived on the train, and about every third day they got a room in a quant bed and breakfast. They visited 8-10 countries, saw most of the main attractions, and saw some beautiful scenary.
They took 2 weeks, so maybe shoot for 3-4 countries for a 1 week trip. |

switzerland because of its german, french, italian influences in one counrty. but no matter where you are in this beautiful country with its very hospitable people you get to enjoy all the charms of continental europe in very clean, safe and beautiful surroundings even in the smaller towns. i studied in london years ago and have visited most of the western european countries but i have always 'come home' to switzerland. |

Go to Sri Lanka. It is a lovely place, and the prices a very reasonable. It is also safer than most other tropical paradises, and a large number of the population speaks English and other European languages, so communication is no problem. Also, the local population takes good care of visitors; you will be treated like gods. |

I'd recommend Andalucia in Southern Spain. As soon as you get away from other brits-on-tour in the costa del whatevers southern spain is really beautiful. Hire a car and hit the road. I'd suggest Rhonda, Seville and the bit of coast that runs southeast from Portugal to Cadiz, (which might actually be a Costa!!), and Trifa was awesome. There weren't too many tourists, the weather was great and the food was outstanding. I never knew Tapas could be so filling. Also, if you have time, do a day in Gibraltar. Very funny. |
