Hi I made the move from UK to switzerand almost 2 years ago and can honestly say that I would have to think long and hard for a reason to move back to UK .
There is an excellent social aspect to living here with children or without. The cities are great for shopping and eating and drinking. The outer areas all have very good communities. I live just outside of Zurich, The culture dictates that Sundays are still a resting day and therefore it is usually a family day. There are outdoor pools in the summer the mountains in the winter. There is far less crime than most places. It is clean and the people polite mostly although the swiss don't seem to like queueing very much !!!1
Yes there is swiss cheese and chocolate, but I have to say you do grow bored with them very quickly if you over indulge.
The cost of living here is more expensive, but is usually reflected in the salaries.
There are large areas of english speaking expats and clubs that cater for all. The other place to try for info would be logging onto yahoo and joining something like expat moms in switzerland or families in Zurich!! If you need any more info just email me
The language will depend on where you live. There is High German, Swiss German and also FRench, italien and finally in the remote areas romantsch. A lot of people can speak or understand English, but are afraid to use it in case they get it wrong

Lots of chocolate to go around, but the sound of cuckoo clocks might be a bit distracting.

nice but expensive

Wiretsar
Hey Chelsea Babe, Cuckoo clocks come from Germany. As to Switzerland wonder if living there is better then Ireland.
Back to the Question:The Language spoken all over Switzerland is German but it would help you if you understood the various dialects.
As a country it is a beautiful place.

Barista
it's a great country to live in. expensive, but if you work, you'll make enough money to live well.
there are tones of different dialects in switzerland, so it is sometimes hard to understand the swiss, but many people know english as well. and if you stay in a city or close to one you will be more than fine!!!
