I would recommend you these places:
Nature:
Aletschgletscher
http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/offer-Travel_Timetravel-Unesco-318284.html
If you really want to see the Matterhorn/Zermatt you have to be lucky- the summit is not often viewable. Its expensive to go up there too....
The glacier express could be interesting for you, if you like to see a lot in a short time. http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/home/summervacations/offer-Activities_Excursions-Typically_Swiss-44875.html (its nice but expensive..)
Jungfraujoch is famous but too touristy and expensive. We (Swiss) usually don't go up there (just many Chinese, Japanese and Americans)
Take the PostBus for a mountain trip. Its typical Swiss- its a national instiution.
For example: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/home/summervacations/offer-Activities_Excursions-Typically_Swiss-44940.html
But you should: visit Bern!!!! Capitol of Switzerland, very nice old town- you'll like it!!!! http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/infra.cfm/rkey/744
If you go in fall- the weather is like in Oregon or North California- could be cloudy and rainy or sunny . You should bring warm clothes and good hiking boots with you for the mountain trips (sometimes it snows on the summit)!!!
The Montreux Region could be interesting too (but would be good if you speak a bit French because its the French part) http://www.montreuxtourism.ch/index.cfm?&Langue=en
If you look for hotels: http://www.hrs.de/changeLanguage.do;jsessionid=71544FF26CB4AC4E6F6FA6C16A4DC0C9?clientId=ZW5fX0hSUw--&cid=2-1
Food:
There are many homely, traditionally restaurants. Eat Roeschti, Cheese Fondue or Raclette http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/about_switzerland/food_and_wine/offer-About_GourmetTravel-Local_Info-list.html?Flags=4
For more informations: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/
I have to add: The Heidi Village (situated near Maienfeld- Region Heidiland) was made just for tourists and really looks like that......If you have no children who are interested in Heidi- I wouldn't go there!!!!
Rhine Falls: I would go there in spring time (cause more water..) otherwise not- there are better cascades!
Have a nice trip! |

Well, I just came back from Switzerland and I really had a wonderful time there. In Switzerland, you can have a whole lot of good time and see beautiful places:
Don't miss to go to the Rhine falls in Schlosslaufen, about an hour from Zurich by train. Two minutes from Schlosslaufen, you'll be in Schafhausen, that's a nice town.
Luzern is a cool place to be for 2 nights
Zurich has a nice lake that's worth seeing
Gotta go to Lausanne and enjoy watching the kids roller skating and board skating by the lakeside.
Visit Zermatt where you could enjoy the snow all year round.
Zell am See is a heck of a nice place that's really worth travelling to
One good place before I conclude, the Heidi Land or the Mienfeld town where you can have access to Heidi house and playground (good for families with young children)
Have fun |

Ger yourself a guidebook, Lonely Planet's Switzerland guide is good, and work out an itinerary based on what you're interested in. I could give you lots of ideas about Luzern, but the things that interest me might be really boring to you.
You hotels in Zurich and Luzern will also have lots of brochures on sights, tours, restaurants etc.
It's summer so could be quite warm, but take a warm jacket and closed shoes just in case the weather turns bad. |
