What is Zurich (Switzerland) like? City? People? Mentality? Is it a good place to live?

I may move to Zurich so I thought to ask this question so I can hear some thoughts from people who live there or have lived there. I don't speak any German.... is it difficult to get around just with English?...

Zurich is the bestest!

Mr Who
I'm originally from Zurich, I might be biased. My opinion is that it is a marvelous town - you simply have to be ready to discover its beauty as well as its odd corners. Did you, by the way, know that Zurich only recently has been chosen as the town with the highest living quality in the world (see http://www.mercer.com/referencecontent.htm?idContent=1173105)?

It's highly developped (although not cheap at all), it's very cosmopolitan, it offers a variety of education possibilties (University as well as the Federal Institute of Technology), has many museums of international reputation, leisure possibilites are countless.

Getting along with English alone will do for some time, if, however you want to become part of the society, then it's just like anywhere else, you'll have to learn the language. And that is, to my regret, not German, as the fairy tale goes, but Alemannic.
