What is the best village to stay at in Switzerland?
I am looking for a village that is very traditional, not near a ski resort, and not visited by a lot of tourists.
Can you give some more details on what exactly you want from the village. You have given 2 things which you don't want but not much about what you do want.
Traditional villages are usually going to have tourists, it is somewhat unavoidable. But some are going to be more suited, if you can give more details on what you want it will be easier to help.

Nothing against the Muotatal ... but try Val Mustair too.

Saas Fee - known as "the pearl of the Alps" is located in the canton of Wallis and is a 3 hour coach journey from Geneva.
It is a ski resort, however is not a purpose built concrete town but is a traditional swiss farming village.
The village is at an altitude of 1800m and is free from car traffic so the air is pure and clean. The village has many traditional shops selling swiss cheeses....chocolate...(all things Swiss!!) .etc....
The emphasis is not only on Skiing. You can walk, bike, sledge and tour the mountain on the modern lift instalations.
(depending on the time of year!)
Saas Fee has the highest revolving restaraunt, the highest railway and the highest ice pavilion in the WORLD!
Please don't get put off by the village also being a ski resort. I have been eight times before.....its great. My grandmother has been going for the last 25 years and she does not ski.......she loves the village atmoshphere!!!
