What is the national flower of Switzerland? Why was it chosen?

Is that all there is?	I know that one! Edelweiss, favorite flower of my grandmother. She used to tell me that its found on very difficult to get to places and that a lover climbs on steep mountains to find one and offer it to his beloved to prove his devotion. Actually it is Austria's National flower too.
