Mr Who
Well, once again it depends on what you mean with "near". If you don't mind travelling 25 kms, you are in Geneva which is full of monuments such as

- The statue of the famous Geneva philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau (in Ile Rousseau)

- Brunswick Monument (for the linguist, horseman, musician and also a talented investor, Charles d’Este-Guelph, Duke of Brunswick)

- Monument of reformation (see http://www.tiscover.ch/ch/guide/5ch,de,EURO/objectId,SIG13404ch,curr,CHF,parentId,RGN437ch,season,at1,selectedEntry,sights/intern.html

and so on, follow this link: http://www.google.com/custom?domains=www.cosmopolis.ch&q=Geneva+monuments&sa=Search&sitesearch=&client=pub-3962124274962134&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&cof=GALT%3A%23008000%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23336699%3BVLC%3A663399%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BLBGC%3A336699%3BALC%3A0000FF%3BLC%3A0000FF%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A0000FF%3BGIMP%3A0000FF%3BFORID%3A1&hl=en

Vita Sackville-West still has her famous shops, filled to the brim with the latest in womens' swim wear.
Look for any of the wonderful 'Anyone Can Swim' shops.
They were opened by Virginia Woolf in 1930.
