It's a good season to visit Switzerland, the country and its people have the summer flavour.
You will find open air concerts pretty much all over the country, but the most famous and international is the Montreaux Jazz Festival, in the French speaking part of Switzerland. Have a look at this site:
http://www.montreuxjazz.com/concerts/artists_fr.aspx
It's more sophisticated and probably more expensive than other festivals, but even tho I never been there, people say the area is also beautiful and worth visiting.
If you go to the German speaking part of the country, like Zurich and surroundings, you should have a look at the Caliente Fest in Zurich: it will happen from July 4th - 6th and it's kind of fun with the Latino touch. It happens in the red light district of Zurich (Langstrasse) which is also worth seeing.
If you stay until August, you should certainly see the Street Parade in Zurich, one of the biggest Techno parades in Europe: http://www.streetparade.ch/
Last but not least, and again talking about Zurich. I have two additional tips to give yoü:
- go to the Letten (it's a river close to the main train station *Zurich Hauptbahnhof), lot's of young people hang around that area late afternoon, evening in the summer. They have some music and drinks....
- if you like more sophisticated places, you should go to Kaufleuten, a bar and dance club, where all bankers from Zurich go on weekends.
Feel free to e-mail me should you want to know something especific. I love travelling and would be glad to help you out.
Cheers
Regarding the weather, even tho is summer... I suggest you to take besides your summer clothes, some long jeans pants and at least 2 warm jackets, being one of them a rain jacket. Evenings or certain areas might be cooler than others.
Should you go up the mountains, take sunscreen, winter shoes and jackets. |

switzerland.............that's a gr8 place 2 be
You can visit Switzerland any time throughout the year. Summer lasts roughly from June to September and offers the most pleasant climate for outdoor pursuits. Unfortunately, you won't be the only tourist during this period, so prices can be high, accommodation hard to find and the mainstream sights crowded. You'll find much better deals and fewer crowds in the shoulder seasons of April-May and late-September-October.
At any time, as you travel around the country you'll hit many different climatic conditions. The continental climate in the Alps tends to show the greatest extremes between summer and winter. Mid-August to late October generally has fairly settled weather, and is a good period for hiking trips.
If you're keen on winter sports, resorts in the Alps begin operating in early December, move into full swing around Christmas, and close down when the snow begins to melt in April.
well as for the events the world renowned JAZZ FESTIVAL takes place in july.......
all i know abt this festival is that it is one of the most popular music festivals..
i m sure u can find out more abt it...
well have a gr8 vaccation.... |

Allow yourself some time for shopping. You can get lots of nice things in Switzerland-- great chocolate (great for gifts), sweaters, embroidered table cloths/hankies, fine clocks, watches (of course-- some expensive, some reasonably priced), pocket knives, post cards, etc, etc. Geneva is a great ppl watching place and the women are very sharply/well dressed-- IMHO even better than Paris. The Swiss National Tourist office can probably give you up to date info on festivals, etc. |
