What to expect in Switzerland...? |
My 7 year old and I will be in Switzerland (primarily Zurich, as we're staying with friends who live there) for 3 weeks this summer. What is there to do in Zurich? What kinds of foods are typically Swiss? I'm sure we'll be cooking at my friend's home a lot, but I expect that we'll go out to eat a few times as well. I know we will visit a castle or two (or more!), but what else is there to do in Zurich...specifically with children? Thanks! |

I grew up in Zurich. It's cosmopolitan, it has a beautiful lake in which you can swim (really warm in summer!), it has a zoo, a nice university (from where you get a spectacular view over the city), plenty of museums, in it's neighborhood you'll find many forests with more lakes, castels can be found within an hour's drive - plenty to do, I don't doubt, especially with your child. Restaurants, hovever, are expensive, although really good. A typcial Zurich dish is "Gschnätzlets mit Röschti" (minced veal in mushroom/cream sauce which comes with hashed browns). Enjoy! |

I just traveled to Switzerland this summer. As the other poster said, Mt. Pilatus is both scary and exciting. I highly recommend it. There IS a slide - not exactly coming down the side up the mountain, but it is on the side going down a fairly steep hill. Probably some of the most fun I had there. I don't know if your child will be able to appreciate the architecture, but in Zurich there's plenty to do and see. You can walk the river or go shopping on Bahnoffstrasse. The food is to die for. I highly recommend the Rosti Potatoes, you and your child will love them. |

i dunno where zurich is...i dunno exactly which parts of switzerland i visited because it was too long ago. anyways, we went to the top of mt. pilatus in the swiss alps. that was awesome! i wanna do it again someday and see if my name is still at the top on the railing. the gondola ride up to the mountain was both scary and spectacular. i heard there is a huge slide coming down the side of the mountain...i dunno if it's true because my group didn't even let us find out. they wanted to take the train down the mountain. well, that was like the highlight of switzerland for me i guess because that's all i remember. hope you have a fun and safe trip! happy travels and aloha! oh, and enjoy some good swiss chocolate for me...yummy! |
