why don't you just bring your own unlocked GSM phone? then you can buy a prepaid SIM card. you can get these from either Migros or Coop supermarkets, and they're cheap; about 20CHF for the SIM, and it includes 15CHF credit on it already. it can be expensive to use these SIMs to call abroad, but people can call you (and it'll be free for you). texting is pretty cheap no matter where you send the sms.
