Switzerland is my home country and I know it really well.
A very picturesque region is Bernese Oberland. You will find several good youthhostels in that region on...

I would recommend you make Interlaken-Bönigen BE your first base. Here is the link to that youth hostel...

Take a look at Switzerland using Google Earth. Its satellite maps are particularly high-resolution, i.e. very clear pictures where you can see many details. Download GE here for free...

Have a great time in Switzerland. Fly into Zürich and take a train directly from the airport to Interlaken.

Switzerland is very small, but i recommend you go to the main cities (Geneva, Bern, Zurich, etc) in most places you will find cheap(-ish) places to stay, but remember, Europe is Europe, so make sure you calculate a minimum of 50 US dollars for each night, that will probably be enough considering the exchange rate... for good options visit hotels.com, you will find really good prices...

If you go hiking around in the mountains, i mean if you like that kind of thing. They have big hotel like things you can stay at, there is just beds lined up and people sleep there for the night. It is for backpackers only. and you get a real sense of the local people doing this. If it sounds like fun i would totally try to get in touch with one of these places.
