Geneva is an international city. You will find the UN, WHO, UNICEF, Red Cross, etc... and several embassies and consulates, therefore, a big percentage of the population speaks english, or english only. I have been living in Geneva for 40 years before moving to the States, and I would choose Geneva of course, but Zurich is a very nice city as well, except that you will not find this international atmosphere. I have met a lot of US citizens who have been there and they loved Geneva! Both tax laws are not real good anyway, but not that bad either, depending on your salary. Trust me, you don't want to live in Zug! It would be very difficult to adjust for a US citizen. You also have a very young population in both cities, I think that due to the foreign aspect of Geneva, generally speaking people are more open-minded. And it's close to Italy, France, 3h train to Paris and summer there is fabulous. Have fun! |

I like Zurich. It's a great city with lots of shopping. The lake is great. Take a trip to "The top of Zurich" (Utiberg - probably spelling that incorrectly).
Also, you can take a train to places like Lucene, Basel, and Interlocken. These are all great places in Switzerland.
By the way, I have been to Switzerland over 20 times from the US. Everyone speaks English. |

English is pretty popular in Zurich too. Both are pretty high-tax places, probably Geneva moreso (but I'm guessing...Geneva canton is hardly bigger than the city, whereas Zurich canton is fairly large.
The best combination of low taxes and many English speakers is in Zug. |
