I'd suggest may, june or september, but if your kids still have school then, go in july, it can get hot though |

It depends on the ages of the children and where in Switzerland you are going (Did you know there are palm trees in Lugano?), however, in general, I think, October would be the best time to go. The weather is mild then and airfare is cheaper. Heavy coats will not be needed for most places so packing is lighter. Children won't have to drudge through snowy streets as well. It's also very nice to see all of the flowers all over Switzerland, in fields and in window boxes. Very pretty. Sight seeing is much easier when not having to deal with extreme weather such as snow. |

I went to Switzerland last year in August. I think the weather was pretty much okay. But the day we went to the Alps, it was gorgeous and perfect for sight seeing. So, I would suggest June-August. But if you want to ski, you obviously have to go during the winter. |

It depends on what you want.
Snow in the mountains is very reliable during winter and that would be fun IF you want winter sports or if you live somewhere it rarely (or never) snows and snow would be fun for your kids.
However, the weather in Switzerland can also be really cold & rotten during winter, particularly in the cities & valleys. That would not be fun for you or your kids when sightseeing, etc. Also, many attractions (ex. the Saint Bernard Monestary) are not open during winter. If you rent a car, driving will be more of a problem during winter.
I would recommend going during late May to early July. The weather will likely be much nicer and is guaranteed to be warmer than during winter. Everything will be open but there won't be as many tourists because summer holidays for most of Europe start around the 7th of July. You can still find cold temps and snow & ice by visiting somehwere high in the mountains like the Jungfraujoch (try to stay in Wengen if you visit the Interlaken area).
Hope you have a good trip! |
