Switzerlland has longhad a policy of refusing to make alliances with other countries that specify that they will have to go to war in the case that their ally goes to war. Therefore, by definitionm they are a neutral country. However, don't mistake neutrality with weakness, they have a crackerajack airforce and every able bodied citizen must spend two years in military service.

In 1513 the Confederation (ancient Switzerland) was at the peak of its territorial influence, and even had Milan under its protection but finally the Swiss over-reached themselves. They squared up against a superior combined force of French and Venetians at Marignano in 1515 and lost. The Swiss therefore decided to withdraw from the international scene by renouncing expansionist policies and declaring their neutrality. Swiss mercenaries continued to serve in other armies for centuries to come and earned an unrivalled reputation for their skill and courage. Even today the Pope is protected by the Swiss Guard.

Switzerland is a little country, and they just know that they wouldn't have any chance in a war against the US, France, England, it would just cost a lot of money...so why fightSwitzerland has other things to invest money. The US has a big army, and a lot of money is spent for military services insted of using it for seocial programms. Switzerland is spending a lot of the tax-money on programms of it's citizen. But Switzerland has still a army to protect itself, just in case somebody would attack them...!
