A country's age is normally counted from the date of its first constitution. Switzerland's first constitution dates from 1848. Any other tellings that you hear are nothing much than fairy tales - such as that Switzerland has been founded in 1291. The paper signed then (actually, a wrong year, since back in the 13th century, the Gregorian time counting was still in use) was only a contract between three great land owners that wanted to protect their property against foreign rule. But I know, fairy tales are difficult to erradicate...
