it really depends. even in the winter, on the alps at high altitude, the sun is so close that without wind, it's not that cold. if there's wind and clouds, then it can be cold. definitely wear a sweater and bring a light jacket in case you need it... you will not need down jackets or anything crazy like that. when i went to the jungfraujoch (3500m) a week ago, i was ok w/ jeans, cardigan, light short jacket.
