Switzerland is an absolutely beautiful country with stunning mountain views, cows in green pastures and picture postcard reflections in the lakes.

The best way to travel around Switzerland is by train, which is very efficient, but quite expensive, so a travel pass of some kind is the most cost effective method to use.
The Eurail Pass is good if you are travelling to at least 3 countries, but there are many other passes available.

As well as regular train travel, you also have the choice of some fantastic scenic train journeys to get you around the country...travelling through long tunnels built through the mountains and on bridges across mountain passes.

One of my favourite places to stay is in the lovely city of Lucerne (Luzern), which is built on the edge of a lake, surrounded by mountains. It's not cheap to stay there etc, but it makes a good base to see Mt Pilatus, Mt Rigi or Mt Titlis, which is in nearby Engelberg.
Generally, the closer you stay to the old town centre, the dearer it costs.

There are dozens of other lovely towns, cities and things to see throughout Switzerland, so I would suggest you get a good guide on Switzerland, such as from Lonely Planet for ideas.

Go and stay in the hotel on Mount Pilatus in Lucerne.

In the winter it is just so beautiful and romantic. If take about 30 minutes to get up there via cable cart and the view is just amazing. There is a restaurant, bar, nightclub and a cinema up there.

Hope you take my advice and enjoy the experience!

All the best

A friend and I travelled to Zurich from Germany on an adventure where all we had were train tickets. We showed up in Zurich at 2am with no place to stay, but eventually found a small hotel near the hauptbahnhof, very luckily. We went to Arth Goldau by train to go up Mt Rigi, it was beautiful, the most beautiful place i have ever seen. Than we took a boat to Luzern, which is one of the nicest cities in Europe. The people are very nice and friendly, the food is outstanding and the views of lake luzern are beautiful from the old church and many other places. There is arguably one of the most beautiful statues in the world in Luzern, the dying lion. We ended up staying the rest of the trip in Luzern, and did not regret a moment of it.

I visited Interlaken. I enjoyed it. There are a lot of sporting opportunities there like sky diving, hang gliding, canyoning, etc. You can also take the train up into the high mountains. It was very beautiful.
