Zurich in christmas?

IS IT WORTH TO TRAVEL TO ZURICH DURING CHRISTMAS?

Well, many of my friends wouldn t hesitate and say Zurich is always nice.... I d say it all depends on what you re expecting from your trip.

In the past, the X-Mas decoration was really nice and quite romantic but last year, they changed it to a modern and - I d say- cold one which doesn t really get the message of Christmas across... there s a lot of striplights hanging down in the middle of the road etc and that s supposed to be the deco. Anyway, as nobody was amused about that last year, they might change it again.
In Zurich, there s quite a big Christmas market which is in the inside of the railway station(that s quite special), it s quite big but if you compare it to Bavarian or Austrian Christmas markets, it s simply not the same.

So if it s for the Christmas atmosphere you plan going there, I d rather recommend you to go to Bavaria- especially everything located in the south of Munich- or Austria (btw, Vienna is also very nice at X-mas time).

Besides that, Zurich really is a nice (architecture, museums, the lake, nightlife, restaurants) and quite international (many foreigners, quite open minded attitude) city and if you ve got the chance to go there, I wouldn t miss the occasion.

If you wanna get more into the Christmas thing, you still could make some trips to Baden/Argau, Luzern or you could go to two of my favourite X-mas markets in Constance or Freiburg (both cities are really nice).
