You're a girl and you have a wife...hmm, are you a lesbian couple?

That would give you a very decent life in London but housing is cheaper the further you go out.

Live outside London and commute. It will be cheaper. Me and partner bought a large 3 bed house with the proceeds of the sale of our one bed flat.

You will need to think about housing quite seriously. I live in SE27 which is as far out of London as it's possible to get without going to Surrey or Kent. Our house is a 4 bedroom Victorian house and cost £350,000. Even if you managed to get one of these new 5 x your salary mortgages you'd need to find an extra £50,000 to fund it. Do you own your own home already as you could use the proceeds from that. You can rent properties but they are also very expensive. There are good commuter routes to the main stations from outside London so you could move to Edenbridge for instance. www.findaproperty.com should help you work out the housing.

It depends on how you live i suppose, you will certainly survive on 60k a year. It would make sense to live just outside and commute as property will be cheaper.

Yes, £60,000 p.a. (sixty thousand quid) is a good salary for living reasonably well in London. If you are thinking of buying a property, you may have to send the wife out to work as well. House prices are high but you can get a flat in a not too bad area for around £250,000 - £300,000. If you are coming over and working for a company in London, they will be able to give you best advice on accommodation.

Restaurant meals vary but set menus are cheaper at lunch time and average around £10 per head - starter and main course. You'll need to add about £10 for a bottle of the House Vino = total £30 average. More up-market restaurants cost more and the sky's the limit.

Theatre [Theater] averages around £35 - £50 per plus some theatres do an add on of % something for administration. Cut price tickets are available from the large kiosk at the southern end of Leicester Square. It's often a case of pot luck and you use the ticket on the day or purchase.

I would say you could live modestly comfortable in London on that wage.

Dumboo
Well my dear friend it is good salary ..but the things it's all depend on your spending style...If you are like me spending money...it will soo hard for you.

Zebedeesnose
Average London salary is £40000. Average national salary is £24000. I'd say you'll be alright but a 3/4 bedroom house will cost a lot to rent (and depends on the area) and would be impossible to buy (£500,000 minimum) so if you want to buy then you will have to commute. This would probably be better for your kids schooling anyway (you can't afford private education).

Robo
You'll be ok, but choose wisely where to stay.. if your in central london then everything will be expensive

Doz
Yes that is a high salary, but it all depends on your expenses, even half that is considered a good salary.

That's not good, that's damn good! I would've thought it'd be enough for a family such as yours.

Well if you're a road sweeper then its excellent, if you are one of the financial elite then its rubbish!

depends what kind of house you wanty as well. Most people will stop at nothing to get a terrace.

If you dont mind living in the inner city 'ghettoes' as well you can get something quite cheap.

Look at Hackney and brixton, they full of culture, crime and general excitement. If this isnt what you want then stick to the boring ol' home counties and commute....
