A question for the UK...?

I'm taking a trip with my parents this summer to London. If some random person heard me talking, would i be made fun of or something? Aslong as i'm mature and nice, i'll be fine, right? Or if a group of people around my age heard me talking, would you think it was interesting? I'm from the United States...... of America! And i'm fifteen.

To answer Mssss sarah Js question, we are really loud here, it annoys most people though.

Give us a little credit Nat... We (the UK) are used to tourists. We like them so of course we arent gonna slag you off just cause you are amarican. Make sure you go other places tho' - Edinburgh and Scotland in general is much nicer!

London is full of Americans living working and on holiday/vacation.....why would anyone presume we'd make fun of you ?

Mr Quack
London is a very cosmopolitan city and hearing an American accent is not uncommon, so no you won't be made fun of! Have a great time and I hope you enjoy yourself

guernsey_donkey2
You'll be fine.

London is packed full of folk of all races, colours and, of course, accents and languages. There are always loads of tourists from the US.

Enjoy yourself, enjoy exploring and shopping.

you know, we don't all live in london, come up to the North where I live, you will be given a much more friendlier welcome, after all, Northern hospitality can't be beat!

I'm not from london, i'm from scotland and i think its cool hearing an american :) i love america! in london there's huge numbers of every race. when im in london allt he ones who think they are something draw the evil eyes at me when they hear my scottish accent but i think they'd be kinda interested in an american one. i hate london. its too busy lol. have a good time! x

I was on the train to London last week and a family of Canadians were on the train, they seemed nice people and nobody was rude to them or anything, and they were Canadian! I've seen South Park enough to realise they can be made fun of in the US. Like anywhere in the world if you're nice, polite and make the effort to talk to people, they'll appreciate it and will almost always be the same with you. Enjoy your trip.

mmmmm.!
Every English person has watched an American film.
American accents are on nearly every TV channel.
You know the world feels a slight animosity towards the US because of it's ram raiding for oil.
You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
Good look!

I think you'll be OK. I've travelled a lot and people in most countries are friendly in my experience. Usually people will be interested in your accent and that will be the basis for a conversation as they'll ask you where you're from and if you're having a good holiday etc. In London people might not even think anything as you get a lot of US tourists there, but if you go elsewhere people might chat to you purely because of your accent.

Where I used to live, up in the north of England, we'd be really interested in anyone from abroad because it was always quite cool to get chatting to someone from another country, but those were in the dark, dingy days of the 80s..........they might be 'over' that now ;o)
