Advice about a driving holiday in the North of Scotland for 4 days over Easter?

We really want to see the spectacular scenery. Could anyone recommend the must -see drives we should do? Where should we begin our journey from (we will take the Caledonian sleeper train from London) and hire a car when we get there. Is the weather terrible at Easter? Any other tips?
Additional Details
Thanks for responses. How long is the drive from Edinbrough to Fort William? If taking our time to enjoy it? Anywhere special you recommend stopping on the way?

If you want best scenery possible from your car you must head north of Loch Lomond to Crianlarich, and follow the A82 north all the way to Fort William. Will take you through Glen Coe, through Rannoch Moor, and also happens to be the area I have seen the most of Scotland's great wildlife. Keep your eyes open for Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles and many varieties of deer.

I guarantee you will enjoy this route, both as a driver and a passenger, and will give you a true feeling for just how big the hills are you are driving around!

For more info on this and many other wonderful routes around Scotland, see http://www.aboutscotland.com/tour/fortcrian.html

See Kitty's answer.

But also drive along the sides of Loch Ness and Lomond, little windy roads but great scenery. The west coast of Scotland I find most picturesque and you can do all the touristy things like Oban glassworks distilleries etc

My friend and I drove into Scotland going up the west coast. The further north we got the better the scenery. Isle of Skye and especially Neist Point were highlights for us - absolutely beautiful.
Loch Ness was boring funnily enough.
Have a great time

Go to Durness, stay at the parkhill (?) hotel/inn. Smoo cave is there. Nice beaches, but wont be beach weather unfortunatley.
Have a good time. Malaig for kippers. mmm. Calender, you can stay at the original 'Dr Finley' house.

You need to be on the north west coast for stunning views...Try plockton, applecross using the old cattle pass knicker gripping stuff!! the five sisters of kintail are beautiful especially if you take the cattle pass through to Glenelg, lovely beach here and the brochs are worth a look to.

Easy just drive up the highlands - all the scenery you could want - weather is unpredictable so cant really help you .Keeping to coast roads will let you see good scenery as well -head to glencoe etc.
Warm clothes and water proof clothes should see you ok.

Take the road to the Isles from Fort William and go over the bridge to Skye. There will be spectacular scenery on the mainland and on Skye itself. It doesn't matter wht the weather is because you will see so much that you will not notice the weather. Portree is a wonderful town with characters and character. Dunvegan is the town nearest to the Cullins and the castle of the Macgregors with the fairy flag. Try and look for a local celigh for the evening and you are bound to have fun.

How long is the drive......?
I always use Multimap.com for routes and directions. Enter start point and destination, and get a step by step route , mileage, and time it takes to complete the journey.
Accurate enough for holidays!

The drive from Edinburgh to Fort William is spectacular. Also, drive up to Loch Ness and to Urquhart Castle which stands on its bank. Its a breathtaking backdrop.
