Am I the only person who thinks the north of england is total dump?

My brother moved to Sheffield and I spent the last week with him. What a total dump, how can anyone live there? Everything is so run down and the people are so weird. We visited Leeds which was also awful and Bradford which was even worse. The only nice place was York. I was told it was all trendy up there. Someone should get their facts right.

cozyuk	Well, aren't you a nice one? NOT! With your narrow minded attitude I sugest that you stay in the south and leave our lovely area to us! Yes, there ARE dumps...All over the country. I wonder if you realise what a prat you sound? I love London...So much to see and do...But wild horses couldn't drag me there to live... Never in a million years would I want to live there. The south coast is nice too, but give me Yorkshire anyday! Bring on the thumbs down... I couldn't give a monkey's...

Kix	I live in Newcastle, about 1/4 of it is a dump. But the rest of the 3/4 is alright. Its mostly because of the "charvas" or "chavs" as the rest of the country call them.

mattiiik	Wow and you felt you had to share this opinion with the world based upon your very limited experience of your visit to the north of England. You visited four cities and were able to conclude that York was the only nice place in the whole of the North of England. Well done. How are old are you? Are you aware that you come across as a narrow minded idiot? In EVERY single place in the UK there are run down estates, areas and strange people (probably where you live too) and to say that 'the people are so weird' is such a childish generalised statement it's quite shocking. You should really grow up and think about what you're saying before you make such stupid sweeping statements.

VENI VIDI VIDIC	Wow Joseph, you know how to insult thousands of people in one go. All i can say is that there are some pretty chavvy crap estates in York but you obviously missed those. There are some very wealthy homes in nice areas of Sheffield so i can only assume that your brother lives in a run down part of that City. Bradford i have to say is not my favourite place but i had relatives who used to live there many years ago and there are some nice areas. I have a friend who lives on the outskirts of Leeds and let me tell you that it beats Croydon and many other Southern Towns and Cities as a very desirable place to live! I have been all over the Country Joseph and there is crap and nice everywhere. Personally the only places i would choose to live in the South are Devon and Cornwall, i would rather live in Sheffield (which i don`t by the way) than London anyday. There`s a lot of beauty and culture in the North and we have the Dales and the Moores which are gifts that Nature gave us. I have a hunch that your brother may be a student and you had a limited `cultural` tour to a few pubs and clubs! Am i close?

Angel	We all live in England, why run down your Country? There are some beautiful areas in Northern England, what about, The Lake District, Northumberland, North Yorkshire Moors, Peak District, The Pennines, Yorkshire Dales, The Cheshire Stock Brooker Belt, Ribble Valley,

Rosie says RELAX.	You obviously haven't visited the Lake District. I reckon it's the most beautiful place in the North of England.

greenorlagh	south of england is a bit of a dump too, tho at least in the north you can escape to scotland.

logan	erm..... you didn't come north, if you did you would of came to Hartlepool and Newcastle and places like that, were nice up here and our countryside is lovely - next time come more north

Wall Fly	It's a North/South thing. Those of us from down South are trained from birth to dislike everything up North, and vice versa. It's a weird thing the North/South divide, it happens in a lot of countries....Italy, America, Vietnam, France etc etc One side thinks the other is a bunch of stuck up, up-themselves gits, and the other side thinks the other are a bunch of common hick dirty idiots. It's just how it is. Germany went for an East/West thing though. Trust them to be difficult.

myareece	Ha so true, im from south and when i was younger we moved to yorkshire.. Hated it! Every1 says people from down south are snobs, No we keep our selves to our self. R2D2	Yes. They have weird accents and the weather is a lot duller than the South of England. I live in London and rarely venture further than Birmingham
