I am American but was lucky enough to live in England for three years and in Germany. There are great things about both. Its alot like home but also has all the great history and all the things that are great about Europe. We do not have dull empty lives-I guess that one guy personally knows all of us huh. I hate to break it to everyone but there is crime everywhere. |

You spell like one so go over there. Much cheaper and they'll like you because you're a Brit. |

Having lived in both places, I say go wherever you want. There's good and bad everywhere. Like someone else said, it's very difficult to generalize America because it's so big and varied. There are plenty of places to live there where you won't be gunned down, though. |

Try the USA.
You can always come back here if it's not to your liking.
If you don't try it now, you will never know.
Californy as described above, or New England / North New York state for the beautiful scenery...and seasons.
Avoid the middle bit, unless you like farming and Tornado's. And it's a bit "Gimme 6" country :-) |

As an American I think that everybody has to realize the sheer geography that plays into this question. Personally, I have never been to England, but it is something I have always wanted to do. The US is not only extremely huge in size it is even more so in diversity. Life can be different by just driving 200 miles...and it depends on which direction you go in. Be aware that the media gives an unreal skew to life.....as it does in your country too, I'm sure. I live in the very western mountains of Maryland. But drove a little more than 200 miles to go to grad school and live in Washington DC for 2 years. Total different dialect, level of friendliness, dress, ect. If you came from England and lived in DC for awhile, you still would not know the US that I know. I suppose all countries are like this.....but considering the size of the US.....the variations are enormous. |

I'm against America! People there are uniform, their brains are washed, they have enough to live good, so most of them do not think of their politicians' actions. They all live happily fat.
Of course, that's my opinion the of average American population. I met many interesting American, who helped me in some situations...but I would never like to be in a country whose politicians kill people all around the world. Americas population is huge and they did not menage to stop that violence.
They were left without electricity recently...it was a disaster. Imagine people from some other countries being left without anything for months, because of American politics. So...England. |

Prefer England - never lived in US - but I just know I would not like it. |

America is wonderful, but I'm sure there are good things about both places.
America has a far greater variance of climate. We have north all the way to Alaska, down to the tropical island of Hawaii and everything in between. We have tundra, mountains, beach, desert, canyons, farm country, city, and plains.
I have been to London, however, and I was impressed with the city. It love the housing in Europe in general (closer together to save space and built upwards) than our spread out housing. I like the fact that in many places public transportation is easy in Europe and here (unless you're in a LARGE city), it's almost impossible.
Gas is cheaper in America....and so are many other services, even after you adjust the prices for the differences in pay.
England has far more history than we do...and the monarchy, which in my opinion seems a bit outdated, but I guess it's a way of life.
If I had to chose, I would chose America. If I had to choose between America and some places in Europe, I may chose Europe because of the culture and "their" way of life.
Plus, you guys have that AWESOME accent!!!!! |

I agree if i had a choice it would definatley be america over england. Like we don't have gun crime here (it rises everyday). At least they have fair punishment over there for hideous crimes. |

I've never been to the UK but judging from the other rude Brits who answered this question, I can see why you want to move. If you do come over our way, I recommend California. I'm a native and I can tell you there is no place on EARTH I would rather live. Wine tasting, surfing, snowboarding, camping, hiking, two world class cities (LA, SF) and you can't beat the laid back way of life. In Cali, we love diversity and we love Brits(even the grumpy ones)! Come on out!!!
Oh yeah and with the exchange rate as it is, if you can live in England, you can definitely live in the states. |
