which British Accent, against which American Accent

Black Country or Liverpool against say Southern or Mid Western US then the US accent wins

Virtually any other British accent against say New York.. no contest the British Accent wins

MARK C
got to say british.

I am an American...Well actually a Southerner (Arkansas)...
I never knew I had an accent until I listened to a recording of my own voice as a kid..............Whew!!! Its thick as molasses.....

But I gotta pick British....

UKdancer
BRITISH!! I'm british and I currently live in America, cos my dad got a better job, and no offense, but American accents sound awful!! Accentuate the "r"s too much!

id say British it sounds more clear and easier to understand.

British for me, Americans sound so whiney and don't put any effort into speaking they just croak!

pumpkin
American English is definitely easier to understand, especially when compared to the northern British accents, so I've always found it easier to communicate with the Americans, so I'll say American...

i love my norfolk(england) accent or atleast whats left of it

Tufty Porcupine
There's no such thing as a British accent!
What do you mean Scots? English? Welsh?

Ant
Rule Britannia !!

I'm English and regional accents vary a lot. I love the New York accent.

vinspitfire
It depends on what you mean British as we have so many accents and sayings here.
Tis were i be from me dears we all get down to things dreckly in der ole debon.
Like our Cornish Nieghbours the Celtic way.

Bruce P (you didn't see me h

Depends. Which American accent. You've got your southern drawl, which is prefferable to the British accent, then you've got the New York slur, which makes it sound like everyone is dead drunk. Then you've your Midwest, your Western, your Texan, and the West Coast.

I would say British

I like the Southern US accents like Texas and Georgia. Not too keen on New England, Maine, NY, or New Jersey tho.

In the UK, I like East Coast Scots but not Glaswegian. Geordie is OK as is a Home Counties accent but dont like West Country, Norfolk, Welsh, Cornish, Black Country, and especially hate mockney and Essex.

Petra M
Definitely prefer a British accent over an American! Some American accents are hard to understand. I still cringe listening to actor Hugh Laurie using an American accent for his role as a doctor in the tv show, House. Or, is that all part of the act to be bloody annoying and brilliant at the same time? I still think he's at his best doing British comedy though.

Cheers,

Petra M, Vancouver

viaj... :)
British!
I love the sound of Norfolk voices...

Julie
I just love the American accent, just something about it,you can express yourself much better,in my opinion.I would love to have one and then i would pick a quarrel with someone and reall kick ***.Only joking about the last bit.I'm very placid really.

there is not one British or American Accent, I like the Boston Accent, the Texas Twang, the Georgia Drawl. I like the Eastender accent, the Liverpool and Ipswich. I hate the welsh accent, can't bloody understand them

Just a friend.

Girls with a British accent sound hot.

However there is a large section of Americans with no accent, most of the west coast doesn't have one. They are the only place without an accent.

Sexy dude
no, Asian accent rules

people got brainwashed to think that british accent is so cool, that is so wrong

as long as a person can speak english, any accent is perfect
