go to cockburn st off the royal mile it has the best shops.

you can do the usual edinburgh stuff but be prepared to pay a lot of money. its all pretty expensive, especially the castle.

Loads to do
Take one of the bus tours
Climb the Scott Monument
The Castle
Ocean Terminal (Royal Yacht and shops)

Excellent restaurants eg Malmaison, Fishers, Skippers, Waterline, Martin Wishart are all at the Shore

Excellent bus service 24 hours

The cafe in the new Parliament building is really cheap

Art galleries are free

Have a great time

A castle and many beautiful other things,

Happyface
The Castle
Do a tour on the bus - I know it's touristy but you get to see loads
Their Parliament building
The Opal Bar is fab if you like dancing/music/drinking
The Greyfriars memorial (it's a dog who was very loyal to his master)
If you like football, the Rangers matches would be a great experience if you can get a ticket

fred405
The Castle, Famous Grouse Experience(brilliant). Loch Ness Trail (If you have a car) plenty of goo eating places and pubs. Hollyrood House. Bus tours around the city

Just grab a tourist guide from all the local attractions

Enjoy your stay. I would come with you if I could. I love Scotland but I live and come from Kent

The Castle.
The Museums in Chambers Street.
The Portrait Gallery on George Street.

Edinburgh is just FULL of attractions! But the best thing is possibly just wandering around admiring the wonderful architecture and soaking up the fabulous atmosphere.

(Oh, and try to get a ticket to Too Many DJs - my kids tell me it's the hot ticket to have for new year's eve (or Hogmanay as we say in these parts!).)

Besides all of the above, you must not go without visiting my favourite shop called 'Forbidden Planet', (I think it's on Prince's Street). It has the most amazing, funky, unusual stuff e.g. movie memorabilia, movie/gothic figurines/dolls, toys e.g. 'Living Dead' dolls, manga galore, comics the list is endless..
For more info., visit their web-site:
Have a great holiday!!

Edinburgh Castle for culture- the shops for shopping and the bars for socialising ! We stayed there a few years back and remember we dropped into a pub/bar off a cobbled street in the City centre for a quick drink. We ended up staying there all evening listening to the live music and enjoying the great atmosphere. I was astonished how much whisky is consumed by the younger generation! If you like whisky then Edinburgh is the place to go!
Enjoy!
