Princess Street gardens are lovely and a lot of time there is something going on there. Just walk round the city itself. It's amazing. All you can see for miles is stone buildings. (Apart from the horrific parliament building - that's free I think to visit but it's horrible.) Spend a little money going to the Camera Obscura. If you walk up to the castle it's just before it on the right. You get a demonstration of the camera but if you go to the top of the building the views are spectacular. There are street performers as you walk up to the castle as well. The museum is great too. I think that's still free. There is also a museum of childhood. I'm not into that - don't know if you are. You must take the open top bus as well. It's not free but very informative, interesting and entertaining. Have fun. It's a great city. |

Visit this website:
http://www.edinburgh.org
Other than that:
1. National Gallery of Scotland - http://www.stuckonscotland.co.uk/edinburgh/national-gallery.html
2. http://www.stuckonscotland.co.uk/edinburgh/old-town-information.html which lists the attractions in old town.
3. You can buy an Edinburgh Pass and get a whole host of attractions free, from http://www.edinburgh.org/pass/attractions
Edinburg is a beautiful city, easily worth a weeks visit if you count on surrounding areas as well. |

The nicest place in Edinburgh to visit free is the Royal Botanical Gardens - check out - www.rbge.org.uk
Entrance to the Gardens is free, however, be aware there is an exorbitant fee to visit the glasshouses. This should not put you off from spending several delightful hours walking around outside enjoying the floral exhibits. |

you can spend a full day in the botanicals gardens - if the weather is nice, take a picnic - it won't cost you a penny |

I've been there and I loved it!! the gallery's are free. So is the view from the castle ( you can see the whole city). The people are really friendly ( I was travelling alone, so maybe that helped) and the city is really clean. I would move there in a second if I had the chance!! |

Many museums in Scotland are free on Sundays, if not all days. Check their websites to find out. |

TONS of places in Edinburgh are free to visit:
the royal museum of Scotland (you only have to pay to go in the special, rotating exhibitions), the Scottish museum, the edinburgh museum, the Scots monument, Arthur's seat, royal botanic gardens, walking in the meadows, and lots of other stuff i'm sure i'm forgetting. if you get a historic scotland pass then most historic properties in scotland are free, including edinburgh castle and st. giles cathedral. |
