Alright there La?

Nope, not from the pool, but was engaged to a lass from Walton/Fazakerly area. Could never get used to the vast differences in accents and laughed everytime someone from Formby said "Oh God NO!, I'm not from Liverpool, we're from merseyside!" (complete with forced "poshness" but still with the underlying Liverpool twang).

It all depends what part your from. There's scouse n' there's proper scouse. I'd have to admit that if I dated another lass from your neck of the woods again, she'd have to have the "softer" mersey lilt. I could NOT date a girl that had the high pitched whine or sounded like Colleen. Seriously, that's what the accent sounds like - the majority of the kids all talk like they're "whining".

It's a nice place in parts (same everywhere) and the majority of folk are nice (albeit straight forward: "You buying that paper or not?...it's not a bl00dy library y'know.)

Ah yes - happy days.

me !

Now a Wirral Squirrel though....moved over to the darkside ...

Love Liverpool . Liked the accent up until about 10 years ago and then it seemed to morph into a real whingey phlegmy abomination . That might just be because I'm 38 and gettin 'al !

Yep I'm from Liverpool ,well Crosby actually but have still got the twang ,Liverpool yea its a great city great nightlife great culture have you seen the iron men, people have different views about them but i think they are great as for my accent well when you hear yourself on a recording it sounds pretty rough but i like it ,

I was born in Everton, which is a suburb in Liverpool.
I have an accent so ive been told, but some people can actually put a broader one on and do you know what? it stands out a mile. So please stop it you beauts.
If it wasn't for Everton Football Club i would be out of this place like a shot and go and live in Portugal or Spain.

I am. I love the City and it's people in spite or maybe because of it's faults and I hate it for the same reasons. it's that sort of city you can do both at the same time. there are many variations of Liverpool Accent, from chirpy to sad, which I like but I really can not abide the inarticulate grunting accent that some use interspersed with F---ing every other word

Avondrow
No, but I spent three years there at Uni.

Yes, I am.

The accent is OK in its natural state but it became massively over-exagerrated during the years Brookside was on Channel Four. It still gets very whiny and sing-song accompanied by a gargling of phlegm.

Listen to the daft, sing-song accent Craig Charles puts on! He kids people he is from riot-torn Toxteth but he is in fact from leafy, well-off Childwall.

Older people tell me that it was the same when the middle-class Beatles (who largely affected the accent from the start as they came from Allerton and other posh south end areas) had some fame and success.

People often forget that the late Derek Nimmo (who sounded astounding posh) grew up in Speke (though it was before the area went downhill!)

The accent used to be far more Lancashire until relatively recently.
