Yes. It isn't really the sort of place that is good for tourists or visitors because there isn't really anything much there. It's a rather ordinary city. However, it is a fairly central spot in the UK, (right next to a motorway), and within easy reach of many places worth a visit, inlcuding: York, Liverpool, the Lake District, Chester, the Potteries, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford ... all within 2/3 hours drive. However, there's not much else to recommend it, and you could find somewhere else that's fairly central that's probably much nicer.

I went to Uni in Preston for three years, 2000-2003. It is a lovely little city with everything that you need. It has some beautiful architecture dotted about and the people are very friendly. Very handy for visiting Blackpool and Lancaster as well as the Lake District.
The city has a good student poplualtion and it is a great place to study- very nice atmosphere for students.
There are quite a few lovely little restaurants and some OK night life. Manchester not too far away either if you fancy going out in a bigger city.
I speak very highly of Preston and I think any negativity about the city is unfounded.

I live fairly close in Blackpool. Preston is just like any other city really. Avoid Deepdale are like the plague though...!

I have regularly visited Preston. Quite an attractive small city. Good shopping centrte, good uni (especially for journalism), some rather attractive buildings.
(And, being a Yorkshireman, I'm not biased!!)

Chrispy bacon, tomatoes & eggs!
Preston is dull
