Anyone from England, London, I can talk to?

Ok so I'm a junior in High school and I have to start thinking about colleges and really the only reason I'm excited about college is to spend semesters abroad... two places I'm thinking of is Barcelona, Spain and London, England... I love to travel and want to travel a lot... I know almost everything there is to know about Barcelona because I've always been obsessed with Barcelona, but London I don't know much about. Everyone tells me to go to spain because the U.K. is just like the U.S. besides the accents, is that true... I also like architecture so is there any difference worth living there for and seeing? My Parents want me to decide because we want to take a family trip to Barcelona or London soon. anyone my age i can talk to? it would just be cool to hear from someone around my age.... thanks

Hi Allie v - I'm a Londoner born and bred. You'll have no problem here in London. While we will understand you instantly, you may have a problem understanding us at first. But it's not that bad. Like Winston Churchill said, we are two great nations separated by a common language.

We just use words differently thats all, but they're all Engish. Like you say hood and we say bonnet - and we're talking about looking at the engine in our cars to see why the thing has stopped and refused to re-start, or whatever.

The next site will help you understand English as spoken here in UK.

Now, how about London itself? The links below will help you discover London.

Meanwhile, every year we have the Queen's Birthday Parade right here in London.

The above is the Queen's favourite military march and it is played for her every year. . . .

You'll fall madly in love with London - it's got everything you can possibly ever want, including a common language called English.

Here's St. George's day at Covent Garden.

hi i live in london

effy :)
oohh, i live like a train ride outside of London
tbh, I doubt the UK is like the US, architecture in London is fab, cos there are so many different styles, cos you get really modern buildings, and then all these lovely old fashioned georgian sort of things,
um, cos I'm english, i've got like, no idea how old you are if you're a junior, that probably sounds a bit pathetic, but, feel free to ask me any specific questions, bout london :)

OH, warning-
London is frrreeeeezing a lot of the time, and it rains a lot,
so slightly different from barcelona.

Travelling between London and Barcelona is fairly easy, as there are some cheap airlines that operate the route. So if you wanted to study in one place but visit the other one occasionally for holidays, you could do so. Personally, I would recommend London because I think you'll find the lack of English speakers a problem in Spain.

barcelona compared 2 london is like new york 2 miami,no contest london is more fun and exciting, you got a chance to live in london for a while don't refuse it,it may be expensive but doing things cheap eventually cost more, besides you can hop on a plane and be in barcelona in 2 hours and spend a weekend there that be enough it's a small town that's pretty for a minute.

I would go with Barcelona, I live in London and cost of living is as high as they say, everything will cost double here for you compared to home. Plus it sounds like you've fallen in love with Barcelona. Go there London will still be here if you chose to visit later.

ALLIE, I HOPE YOUR PARENTS WILL BE SEEING THIS, WHAT I AM GOING TO BE TELLING YOU!
ALLIE, If I was your parents you would not be leaving not even the local college never mine to go THOUSAND of MILES away out of the country! Allie do you want an EDUCATION or you want to travel the world? You do not even have to ans. this question because you have say it in your own words already! All you will be doing is waisting your parents Money and it's a shame thy have not seen that yet & I do not thing they will see it until after the fact!. If you was my son & you decided to go away to college with the intention that you haven given, the reason why you want to go away to college then the only way you would get my blessing is if you are paying your OWN WAY TRUE COLLEGE, Then I would show you where you would be going wrong &
the way you should go & if you still decide to go your way, then I would
give you a hug, a kiss on the cheek, & say GOOD LUCK MY SON, YOU ARE NO MORE A CHILD, & I WISHED YOU ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD, and then I let you go. You are now on your own to blown
your own money away without any EDUCATION when you comes back, because you have make it very clear that education is not what you will be going to look for. If you were going in search of Education then I, NJ. would tell you to go to England any where in England not specially London, but you ESPECIALLY want to go to LONDON so what can I tell you YOUNG LAD? Nothing but to leave you with your own
young head to make such a costly mistake! All I can say to you is,
GOOD LUCK TO YOU LAD!.
