Hayes is a town in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is a suburban development situated 13 miles (20.9 km) west of Charing Cross.

For more useful information on Hayes (in the London Borough of Hillingdon) - http://www.thebestof.co.uk/hillingdon

Hayes was developed in the late 19th and 20th centuries as an industrial locality to which residential districts were later added to house those who worked in the nearby factories. Its development is typical of that of what is sometimes called the second industrial revolution - the creation of new light engineering industries on the edge of existing cities.

Its name came from Anglo-Saxon HÇ£s or HÇ£se = "(land overgrown with) brushwood"

Whilst there are some pleasant locations in the area such as Barra Hall Park, Hayes in the early 21st century is largely a residential suburb, with industrial sites still situated in hayes Town. As a shopping centre Hayes is eclipsed by Uxbridge and Hounslow which offer a far wider variety of shops.

Hayes has few cultural assets, there is no cinema, one theatre, and no galleries or museums. The town's Catholic church houses a huge Madonna with Child by the 20th century Italian painter Pietro Annigoni. Nightlife is confined to a handful of public houses. Hayes also has a football club called Hayes F.C. that compete in the Conference South.

Hayes's crime rates have also gone up in the past few years, it is becoming one of the worst places in West London which was founded after the study done by Channel 4 which was aired on the 26th October 2006. Hayes isn't as bad as other places in London such as Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets but the crime rates are increasing. Hot spots for crime in hayes tend to occur around the North Hyde Road, St Dunstans Estate, St Christophers, Hayes Town, Hayes Park areas. Various crews named "Section 18", "B.U." and "A.H." are responsible for much of this crime.

Its very close to Heathrow, and a high prooprtion of the workforce at the airport live in Hayes.

Oh, and its just called Hayes, not Hayes "Town".

Hayes is just a bit of bland boring suburbia in west London. It's near Heathrow airport. No notable features at all.

Christine H
Yes! It is boring!

Bland,,if you want excitement in Hayes,,go to the local BP garage and watch people inflate their tyres

Yes. Typical suburbia.

Tropic-of-Cancer
Situated on the A312, the above contributions sum it up extremely well. If you're looking for excitement, then I'm afraid it's not your kind of place.

yeah I worked in Hayes Middlesex for just over 5 years..... It depends what u r looking for in a town....Its got about 75% pubs are Irish. Some good some u wouldn't visit with your Granny. The shops in the town are mainly your run of the mill town shops ie Wollies but there are a few bargain shops.....There is a shopping complex at the crossroads of Coldharbour Road with a big Sainsburys. But mostly rubbish.
Population is made up about 50% Indian as Southall is about 1 mile along the road.
but sport wise the only excersise i now of is the Bingo hall but if you travel 5 miles down the road you have got Northolt which is totally different....worth looking there if u thinking of moving there

hounslow m
Crap! its near southall so say no more

OH my god that place is a real dive don't do it mostly Asian community Large housing estate. I have tried very hard to say or find something good but really I haven't got all day to think that hard. NEVER.

sleepflower
It's rough! Don't go there

mistickle17
Been there many times but int the last few years it has really gone downhill and I now avoid going there. Too many gangs hanging around day and night and no longer safe to be alone especially if you are not asian or somalian!
