people are not more or less really friendly just because they do or don't say good morning ... never mind when someone said good morning to you, when did you last say good morning to someone else? ... it's a matter of habit, and if you said good morning to everyone you passed in London you'd be at it all day every day and would never get anything done ... I've lived in London for years and often bump into people I know when I'm out and about, and they always greet me and sometimes we stop for a chat ... we tend not to greet people we don't know because there's just so many of them, not because we're unfriendly |

I think people are more stressed than they were 20years and as a result of that people have become less friendly. Also there is this whole recession thing going on so people are very worried. But i don't think people up north are really any friendlier. They weren't when i went there. |

This is an on going question.
Most people are friendly. You often have to take the lead and speak first.
Do it with sincerity and a smile.
I have never understood why people say that other people are unfriendly. I talk to every one and any one everywhere all the time. |

Londoners ARE friendly, they just get this reputation of being rude from tourists
For example I was on a bus the other day and the driver was driving and there's a big sign saying 'do NOT talk to the driver whilst driving' but this woman went up to him and was going 'hello, EXCUSE ME' and knocking on the glass and waving her hands and asking him this stupid question that didn't even matter, and then he said 'can you please not distract me whilst im driving' and then walked away looking so shocked and going 'so rude!' when actually it's the tourist not respecting the way we do things over here
Also, when you're on a very busy street such as oxford street, you'll probably be stressed and tired and getting a huge group of tourists stop infront of you probably will make you a bit moody
But I've lived in London all of my life, and I consider Londoners to be very friendly, especially in the town that I live in
And about the north and south question, I think it depends which part you live in |

Its a busy and crowded city, people are in a rush to get to work or home. Everyone around you is just in your way and preventing you from getting where you want to go quickly, especially tourists. You want friendliness? go live in the countryside or better yet the caribbean. |

Depends. Live in Hackney and you'll get the worst of the worst (especially Brixton, Brixton is not in Hackney just so you know). Live in other areas you'll get a good morning if you go to local shops and stuff. like the bakery, they'll say good morning. And SOME neighbors. |

people up north are much more friendly, and thats not just because im in leeds. I have to go to Kent to my employers head office and I go through London and I hate it, people are so rude, aI once saw an old man fall down and nobody helped, I asked directions and got ignored by some posh woman, and nobody says goodmorning to a stranger like we do up here. I wouldnt live down there for toffee. |
