Are the Streets of central London safe at night?

..***..
Relatively, if you are careful.

I was saying this to my mum the other night- she worries a lot!
Certain places particularly in Soho are so well lit and there are loads of people I feel much safer there at 4am than most places at say 10am on a sunday morning when no one is around!

but you should be careful of backstreets and quiet or dodgy areas

Victoria
Are the streets of ANY major city safe at night? Nope.

Just dont go wandering anywhere too dodgy! Havent had any trouble - but thats probably cos if I've had a drink or two I always hop in a cab home!

Jack the Ripper!!!! :D He died, centuries ago! Although his ghost is said to haunt old London town!

Central London is reasonably safe at night, as long as you aren't out alone, don't have any valuables visible, and don't act like an idiot.

London is the busiest city in the world.

If you must walk the streets of London at night, travel in a group. If you're in a car, day or night, and you're on the move, keep your doors locked and windows up while in the capital. Keep to busy, well-lit areas. Have a plan for where you're going. But overall, London's a fun and vibrant city. Have fun!

I don't think the streets anywhere at night are safe these days

Pretty safe, but you always have to be cautious, like anywhere. You would probably encounter more problems on weekend nights as more people are drunk or on drugs.

As a Londoner....
Its no safer or any more dangerous then any other capitals streets at night.
Watch out for eastern Europeans though,Jack the Ripper is the very least of your problems!

geoff t
They are as safe as any major city in Europe.

This town is safe. Just watch out for your purse and, like everywhere else, go out with friends.
