The name leprechaun may have derived from the Irish leath bhrogan (shoemaker), although its origins may lie in luacharma'n (Irish for pygmy). These apparently aged, diminutive men are frequently to be found in an intoxicated state, caused by home-brew poteen. However they never become so drunk that the hand which holds the hammer becomes unsteady and their shoemaker's work affected.

Traditionally, Leprechauns are only found in Ireland.

I haven't seen any but how I hope there are. I know there are fairies though, a hotel that my husband and I managed in Edinburgh had loads of them in the garden, they were amazing and would dash around. |

Seriously, Scottland and Ireland were one, long ago. Leprechauns are found not by location but by blood. Basically, yes. Leprechauns are in Scottland as much as they are in Ireland, however, Ireland is their place of origin. |

Leprechauns are a side effect of Irish whiskey. For some reason it does not happen with Scotch. |

No Leprechauns are most definately Irish ONLY.
However watch out for the Scottish Haggis, they can be quite dangerous and give a nasty bite! |
