The London Eye is kind of surprising. You expect it to be kind of stupid, but most people who go up are actually kind of impressed with the view they get on things such as Big Ben, St. Pauls, etc. It really helps a bit if you know London so you can pick out a few more landmarks. I think it is sort of a hidden secret that the London Eye is actually quite popular with people from London and the UK, and not just visiting tourists from overseas.
Dusk is very nice, but you do run the risk of bad weather spoiling the view. When you are up at the top you are looking down on Big Ben (which is pretty tall already). Kind of neat. |

The London Eye is absolutely amazing. The best time to go is early evening when the london skyline comes alive and everything looks amazingly fantastic.
If you go with a disabled person they will stop it when you get on and off. |

A friend went and highly recommended it. Early evening before it truly gets dark so you can still see the buildings etc - and plan what to visit next day. Then, afterwards, when it's dark, you walk along the riverside path and look at all the pretty lights and buildings. Throw in a film at the arts place and a meal in the cafe there. Brill. |

I visited London around this time last year and actually went on the London eye in the dark . We booked through Londontown.com and we booked a meal at porters restaurant and a trip (flight as they call it) as a package it was excellent.
It was a risk going in the dark if the weather was bad but luckily when we went it was bitterly cold but there was not a cloud in the sky and the whole city is illuminated and with planes flying by it was like something out of the movie blade runner.
We had the meal at 5pm and the trip on the London eye at 7.30pm so there were no queues . I would recommend you book through the website it is cheaper and you can select whatever time suites you. |

My opinion is it's brilliant... highly recommended.
For the best views of London, go early afternoon.
For an alternative, with the city lit up like a Chrostmas Tree, try early evening - around 7 PM... |

There is a champagne bar on the 42nd floor of the NatWest Tower in the City. It has a much better view than the eye and you sit in comfort. A glass of champagne costs £10.
Entry to the eye is £14.50.
See what I'm saying? |

It's great. Ive done it a few times and loved it. Never go on a cloudy tho...on a clear day you can see all the sights. Time of the day doesnt matter - cloud/smog cover does. |

I think the Eye is over rated. As is Madame Tussaud's. |

I went in the morning. It looked bland, gray and boring. So, I would suggest before it is proper dark, so when it is dark you can look at all the pretty pink lights that go around it in the night. |
