Best Place to Live in England?

We are young working married couple who prefer

-safe area for raising children
-benefits of a large city but not IN a large city
(we live an hour outside of LA and love that if we need to drive there its only an hour away, as well as the beach or the mountains)
-not a home but a flat or apartment

I work as a wedding coordinator and my husband does construction.

Thanks!!!!!

It's cheaper to live 'up north' but I don't know where to recommend. I live near Bradford in West Yorkshire, but I wouldn't recommend it. North Yorkshire is nicer, Harrogate, or York, perhaps?

tucksie
I presume you are American so sorry, the best place to live is in the UK, Walney Island. Next to the sea with the coast all around and 20 minutes from the English Lake District.

Harrogate, York or Ripon.

Bath or Tunbridge Wells.

Both spa towns...both rich...both removed far enough from London to be pleasant.

How about South Wales? There are lovely beaches on the Gower Peninsula, the Brecon Beacon moutains, and the benefits of Cardiff and Newport. Also, just across the Severn Bridge is Bristol.

All cities have suburbs and surrounding small towns that could suit you perfectly. You can get crime statistics from the Office of National Statistics (google is your friend).

mkultra
Kent is nice and it's easy to get into London from there.

Tough one that-England is relatively small compared to where you live.Chester is a small city, very pretty in itself, with some lovely countryside nearby. Also,if you want mountains and the sea, then North Wales is only an hours drive away.

Isle of Wight, Devon, Somerset or Cornwall.

If it must be England choose Carlisle or Berwick-on-Tweed, handy for Scotland.
