That totally depends on how far you're willing to go, but at the risk of being a cliche the lake district is beautiful. I personally will be trekking there this weekend, and I'm looking foreward to some awesome views! |

Depends what you want.
You want a great city, for shopping, night life? London and Manchester are probably your best bets.
Theme Park? Alton Towers is the best one.
Best beaches? Pretty much anywhere in Cornwall.
Brighton is also good for night life, and is by the sea.
Best scenery? Lake district, Cotswolds, Peak District, North York Moors.
Best old town with a LOT of charm - Whitby in North Yorkshire(nr to North York Moors).
If you fancy a trip across the border into Wales, Snowdonia is beautiful, as is the West coast of Scotland. If whisky is your thing, you could visit a distillery.
The site below might give a few ideas, but you don't need to limit yourself just to what's on there.

Birmingham is beautiful, the people are really "friendly" and always happy to "assit" in one way or another. |

Canterbury is good for history, Margate is fun in a corny kind of way, Stratford-on-Avon for Shakespearean culture, and my own city (London) has enough to keep you amused for a month. A day trip from where, however? |

Manchester is worth a visit, the open top bus tour is interesting. |
