Both are brother Celts, but why are the Welsh generally so dark in colouring, but the Scots so fair?

The Welsh (and Cornish and Bretons) are Brythonic Celts and the Scots (and Irish) are Gaelic Celts. They are a little different. Also - the Scots have a lot of Viking genes!
Don't believe stories of Spanish Armada survivors - that's rubbish! The Welsh killed all the survivors they found and any that got away must have been SUPER virile to change a nations genes!
Even Caesar said there were dark (black) Celts and fair ones! The whole Spanish connection has been consistently debunked by historians and geneticists many times over. "Celtic" is more of a cultural term and not a racial one so variation is understandable.
There are Celts in Norther Spain however. They are called Celtiberians. They fout for Hannibal in the 2nd Punic War. They do look a bit like some Welsh people so this may be where the idea came from. They were part of the great ancient Pan European Celtic culture in ancient times.

My hubby's dad was Welsh and half of his relations are very fair, my grandpa was Scottish and he was dark, guess its whats in your genes and not were you come from that matters.

I would guess that it has to do with the Viking influence among the Scots.

the scots routes are in the irish tribes. the welsh from picts and britons. the welsh are more closely related to cornish then scottish people. celtic tribes lived from ireland across to germany and not all were closely related i cant say ive noticed any major difference really though.

Not brother Celts - two different types. There are other physical differences between the two if you know where to look (like Swansea or Thurso).

I have heard that the true English man is a welsh man.Reason being that's where they fled to when England kept getting invaded.As for skin tone could the Moors have something to do with it .they did get as far as Cornwall and other parts of the south west i think.

My husband is Welsh and he is fair skinned, blonde hair & blue eyes. So far not met any dark Welsh people, unless it's summer and they have tans.....

In this day and age DNA testing has been able to show surprising result about human migration. Many who are anchored to a particular thought and nationality just do not wish to believe.

Apparently Spanish traders followed the coasts, having no GPS or even a sextant... keeping sight of land made their way to Wales. They traded and such and of course there was some intermarriage.

Italian immigrants after WW2 and dark people from Ireland is because when the Spanish armada shipwrecked there when the English kicked their Ã¡rse and didnt want to pass England on the way home, some went to Wales. By the way there is Celts all over western Europe (Spain, France, Cornwall and other parts of England even, so dont think its just an exclusive club for taffs and poridge gobblers). Refering to that rubbish below, that a true englishman is a taff, true englishmen didnt run away and we integrated with the romans, norman (french YUCK! we aint all perfect), vikings, saxons, germanic (hey we aint all perfect........again)! etc, and thats how we have the most used language in the world today: ENGLISH! we all use it on this website and that is that! we are the heart of the british isles and some of us wanted to stay here and not end up in the Celtic extemities. Proper Celts are the Irish anyway, so jump off the bandwagon you plastic celt anti anglo tÃ³ssers

I've noticed that the Scots in general are more Red headed, i'm not so sure about the Welsh being dark...unless your just thinking of Tom Jones and Catherine Zeta Jones
