British/American Accents?

Do British people like American accents? I'm American, and I ADORE British accents!!! I think they sound so cool!! Do British people think the same way?? I've always wanted to go to the UK someday.

Hi, this is an interesting question for a Brit (from London) to read... more interesting though are the answers!

I'm quite positive that not ALL British people dislike American accents any more than not all Americans like burgers with extra cheese. Shouldn't we also agree which accent we're talking about? In the States you have some great accents that many Brits adore (New York City for one, Georgia for another); personally, there are some Californian accents that I would rather not hear too often. In the UK, we have distinct variations even within London, and then pick a region and you'll find a distinct accent there too.

Anyway, in the spirit of the question, you'll find many Brits who will love your accent; whether or not they admit it is a very different, and more appropriate question. I mean, it's not done to be too gushing about the way one talks is it?

I think the Southern accent has a nice lilt to it and I also like the certain roughness of the New York accent. Other than that, Americans all kind of sound the same to me. But there's something almost 'cute' about the accent, I think because it's almost soft to the ears.

I am English but have lived in the US for a long time, but still have
an accent. I have found that most Americans cannot differentiate between the different local accents in England and vice versa. I can "do" either accent when I want to, but have found each country likes the other countries accent. It is just a different thing is all.
Hope you get to Old Blighty one day.

Some American accents are ok and some just GRATE on the hearing. The blonde female in CSI Miami for instance!

I dare say that there are a lot of British accents that would grate on other peoples hearing as well....even though I am English, there are some accents here which make me cringe!

Each time I have visited England I have had quite a few comments on my southern accent. All have been positive.

Depends....... some do, some don't.

I kinda like the accent of American chicks (particularly Southern accents)............. though I kinda find the accent of American guys kinda annoying but hilarious, particularly during the summer when I'm in town and I hear American guys over here with their girlfriends and giving them the mushy lovey-dovey talk.

well usually they hate not only american but even australian accents but all the people are not the same ... societies consists of different types of people with there own likes and dislikes

Thank you for Loving my accent lol (lots of laughs)
I like the New York accent that is always heard in the gangster films, but dont know if that is actually true there.
I visit Florida a lot and they are lovely people there, and their accent is nice.
The words you use are so different to us, and when i travel there i try to use as much as i can, so I'm understood.
Yeah come to London its the best city in Europe, theres so much to do, you'll totally enjoy it!!
