We just use the hot tap for hand washing. It may seem strange to you, but we are used to it in Britain, it's how it's always been. |

Hot water? By Jove, what on earth is that? |

I assume you are not a Brit.
Some of us dont have a convenient river or stream to wash in and we are still waiting for electricity and gas to be invented..This computer is hand cranked. |

It is the law. It is to stop water that has been stored in a storage tank entering the drinking water supply.
Even mixer taps in UK don't actually mix the water until it leaves the spout - there are two separate feeds hot and cold and they are kept separate until the end of the spout. |
|

?

Don't ask such silly questions. Just because wherever you stayed when you were here had two seperate taps, it doesn't mean that everywhere in th UK does! How ignorant. |

Mix hot and cold together in the basin, easy really. |

Why? What difference does it make? |

We have a thing called a plug, which fits into the drain-hole to stop the water running out. Then we just mix the hot and cold water in the sink or bath.
In the UK we care about the planet. |

are you for real !!! just turn on the both taps and you get warm water. really it is very easy |

We don't need them, and they're not all like that. The ones that are are just made that way and I guess we're just used to it. You wash your hands in the hot tap and rush to rinse them before the water gets too hot and unbearable! It's a bit silly really when I think about it. |

in America we have some places that are like that too kiddo.. older places maybe.. but they do sell sinks like that. |

Exactly how many bathrooms in Britain have you been in? Just bec you have been staying in low end, unmodernised, delapidated hostels does not mean all of our houses are the same. |

Because sometimes you need hot and sometimes you need cold. Can you imagine brushing your teeth in lukewarm water - eugh!
I wash my hands under the hot tap. The water doesn't run hot hot immediately so its warm while you're doing it! |

Well it doesn't really matter coz we don't wash our hands, what's the point, unless we've pi@sed on em? Anyway we like to save our water, coz that way, we can have a bath on the first Sunday of each month, need it or not! |

that was an old way now the more pricier units have a single balanced control some with a temp control built in |

We don't always use two separate taps, that is just more traditional. What do you mean "How do we wash our hands...?" The same way you do, we are not aliens you know! What difference does the season make? |
|

bcoz god intended it 2 be that way..... |

Erm.. There are mixer taps here. I don't know why there are two taps sometimes though, we have them in my house.. It's not exactly tradition, but. Hmm, I dunno :] |

Run a basin full and take the plunge!
Yanks why don't most of you have bidets in YOUR bathrooms? |

A lot of modern taps are combined. Older ones often not. I use cold water to wet them , hand wash then a quick splash of hot, rinse with cold. Don't know what anyone else does. |

Don't forget, we don't CHOOSE to use taps that way - they just are! Most of us buy/rent houses and don't do much to them, so we just live with whatever fixtures come with it. If I have the money to redecorate, I'd get a bathroom suite that had one tap for both temps. |

We take great pride in our history and traditions, what was good enough for Henry IV is good enough for us. It's impossible to wash our hands in winter because the pump is always frozen! |

2 taps no problem, they give better control over temperature.. My house was built long before mixer taps were in common use.
My 3 year old Grandson can manage to brush his teeth in cold water and his hands in hot water, all on his own, all year round too.
