Calling all Glaswegians?

I am going to be working a few days a week in Glasgow (I'm from the South of England) for the next few months and have never been there before. I was just wondering if there's any sights I ought to go and see whilst I'm there and also a few pointers on where is best to go drinking and partying. When in Rome as they say! thanks
Additional Details
Thanks guys, whilst I'm here I may as well find out where to avoid also as I gather there are some slightly 'orrible bits to it too where the heroin taking buckfast and tennents super drinking crowd hang out!! any ideas?

Visit the many beautiful parks and museums Glasgow has to offer - http://www.glasgowmuseums.com/ The Science Centre and IMAX are also worth seeing while you are here - http://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/imax.aspx
The nightlife in Glasgow is amazing. Depending on your age group and taste in music there are so many great pubs and clubs to choose from. I would recommend One Up - http://www.oneupglasgow.com/
Arta - http://www.arta.co.uk/
The Loft and Oran Mor - http://www.socialanimal.co.uk/site/conte... - http://www.oran-mor.co.uk/ Check out this site for more information - http://www.nightb4.com/uk/glasgow/ I think as long as you stay in the city centre and the west end of the city you will be ok.
Hope you have a great time in Glasgow!

yeah these r all great places to go! glasgow has a really good live music scene, try catch a gig at one of the live venues around the city! king tuts is awesome! the west end has great bars down ashton lane and if ur low on cash sauchiehall st is great for cheap nights out! nice n sleazys, capitol and firewater r great! u should defo check out the museums around glasgow the kelvingrove is just wonderful and the botanic gardens are just next to it. in the eastend the peoples palace is situated on glasgow green and the winter gardens. ask around when u get here, the people r friendly enough! maybe stay away from the outskirts! stay in the city centre ;) glasgow has a bad rep but honestly its a great city and i hope u enjoy urself!

best places to go out in glasgow are The Social (in merchant city) and The Corinthan(Ingram Street) All the pubs/restaurants in Merchant City are nice. Also TGI Fridays is good for cool coctail. If you are feeling flush head up the west end for lovely restaurants/piano bars/wine bars etc. Stay away from the Gorbals if you want to return to England alive :-)

Dont go to Cathouse its a dive!!!

OMG NEVER come to Pollok ;O
Unless you want stabbed by a ned (chav)
Nah I kid but it is a terrible place
You get neds everywhere so you cant really avoid them . . .
Just dont talk to them

xD

Merchant City or Byers Road are pretty cool night time venues dude, Visit Celtic Park but during the day... Avoid Govan like the plague.. in fact you'll probably catch the plague if you venture over there. enjoy our fine city it's not as bad as it's painted but watch out for the wee hairies up the toon pished and making a total cnut of themselves trying to live the Glasgow image... fcuking embarrassment. avoid all housing schemes

you got it right again angel

The Solid Rock Cafe, hope street! Its right accross from central station and its the only place to go for a good beer and some mindless banter!

However, if you arnt a fan of rock/metal music, perhaps not!

The Cathouse nightclub on union street (beside central station) is the only place for rock/metal clubbing. Or, there is the Arches, which is a pub and club for non rock lovers!

And, if you are here on a weekend, you HAVE to go to The Barra's Market!

The Scottish hate the English with a passion, good luck though.
