Trust me, staying at the scummiest, vermin-infested, sleaze-bag sh**-hole hotel is going to be a thousand times worse than staying at a decent hostel. If you're wanting something a little quieter, look on the reviews for one that's got a high rating for security and cleanliness, and a lower rating for fun, as these tend not to be party hostels.
£20 hostel - sleep with 3 other people.
£20 hotel - sleep with rats, bedbugs, cockroaches and whoever else stumbles into your room. |

A hostel will cost more than that. |

If you find someone to share a twin room with you could get one for 40-45 pounds between you. Try wotif.com to see the sorts of places. There may be some cheaper B&Bs(Bed and breakfast) but they will NOT be like the B&Bs in the country which are cosy home type places with good breakfast! |

basically, no...
however, apparently if you book an easy hotel early enough you can get a room for £25 a night (no extras, no breakfast)
otherwise, the lowest prices i found were around £30-40 for low-rated b&b/low-budget hotels
if you hunt on enough travel sites you might find something in that range, but that's really going to be your best price |

NO! the cheapest place you will find will be a hostel, but you could stay in a hotel around 30 Min's away from london for about £50 a night. |

Try Travelodge. Their prices start at £19 and go up in £10 increments. |

you will not find any hotels in central london for that price. If you are willing to brave Brentford or Wembley then you can find a flea pit for £30 a night. Bring some earplugs though because the drug dealers and prostitutes will be coming and going at all hours during the night.
I strongly recommend you avoid coming to London until you can pay at least £80 a room - you might get a decent 3 star single room for this in London itself.

There is a very low cost group of six hotels along a street in Bloomsbury within a short ride on the tube or a long walk. Single rooms (175 total) at the COUNTY are £42 per night. One bathroom for four bedrooms. It is a small step up from bunk beds at the hostal. That is the lowest price that I am aware of. You may be able to get a little lower at Earl's court, but I doubt you will find a place for £20 per night.
- Hotels are not even that cheap in a large American city (except Vegas). |
