A very small number of the touristy places in Edinburgh do in fact take Euros but POUNDS is the currency in the UK so take pounds.
So the answer is YES, but DON'T.
Dont get involved in this "scottish pounds/English pounds" issue either. Make sure you have BANK OF ENGLAND pounds because they are a lot less hassle especially if you have to change back afterwards. But avoid the big denominations because like that other guy said, there have been forgeries and some shopkeepers will not accept big denomination notes. |

Most big stores (such as department stores and places like HMV) will accept Euros rather than pounds. Just go to the post office and exchange your currency for free anyway. |

There are certain places where you can, but only if specified (for example at certain phone booths and the like). Unless there is a clear sign, assume that the £ British Pound Sterling is the only accepted currency. |
